And they certainly know that in one Norfolk village where the hottest ever June temperature in this country was recorded...at a blistering 37.7C. (about 99.9F).

This was at  Lingwood, Strumpshaw Hill, on June 26 breaking the previous record of 35.6deg.C (96F) at Southampton in June 1976.

As temperatures continue to soar, not just in Lingwood, but across East Anglia, let's take a look at the life and times of this lovely village.

It has been described as a hostage to history. Not recorded in the Domesday Book, being part of Blofield. Under the lordship of William de Lingwood the settlement eventually took his name and a village was born.

In more recent times the village's fate has been dictated by two major events: the Poor Law Reform of 1834 and the First World War.

The first resulted in the district workhouse being built in the village and the Great Eastern Railway was laid through in 1882.
