Inquest prompts family's call for hospitals to be clearer about 'DNR' explanations
Josephine Ellis died at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital in October following an operation to repair a hip fracture she suffered in a fall in a car park.
Prior to the operation, the 76-year-old agreed that she did not wish to be resuscitated should she need emergency care afterwards and a ReSPECT form - colloquially known as a "do not resuscitate" or DNR form - was completed.
However, her family raised concerns after it emerged that in agreeing to this, she had also consented to her care being given a "ward ceiling".
This meant she would not be moved to either high dependency or intensive care units in the event of deterioration.

As a result, when Mrs Ellis did begin to deteriorate, her care was not escalated.
