Law change for market to leave Norwich after centuries edges nearer
The market has been a fixture of the city for centuries, but Labour-run Norwich City Council wants to relocate it from its current site off Hall Road.
However, because an Act of Parliament currently requires City Hall to provide a market within Norwich's boundaries, the council is seeking new legislation to enable it to move outside of the city.
That has meant the council has had to bring in the services of a parliamentary agent to table a bill in Parliament.
And, on Wednesday that bill was scrutinised by a House of Lords select committee.
