Family compensated for council's blunders after boy stopped going to school

A watchdog ordered Norfolk County Council to make the payment after it agreed with a complaint, lodged by the child's father, that the authority took too long to assess his son's needs or to provide suitable alternative education.

The boy stopped attending primary school in November 2022, because he was increasingly getting into trouble due to emotional dysregulation - an inability to control emotions.

He was put on a reduced, part-time timetable, while the school sent work home and tried using online meetings.

But by Easter 2023, the boy was rarely attending school and his father had enrolled him in a forest school one afternoon a week and on........
