Ahead of T20 World Cup, JioHotstar to exit from ICC media rights deal
New Delhi: Reliance-subsidiary JioStar has informed the International Cricket Council of its intention to exit from its four-year India media-right deals ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup after taking a huge financial hit.
Citing expected losses of Rs 25,760 crore in 2024-25, up from Rs 12,319 crore a year earlier, JioStar wants to end agreement two years prior to completion of deal, reports Economic Times.
ICC’s media rights deal from 2024 to 2027 was valued at $3 billion with one major men’s tournament assured to be held each year. In the new sale process for 2026-29 cycle, the ICC seeks $2.4 billion.
The report suggests ICC has approached Sony........
