New Delhi: In a landmark move aimed at bolstering the financial well-being of the middle class and stimulating economic growth, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her eighth budget presentation, announced a significant overhaul of the personal income tax structure. The most notable change is the elevation of the nil personal income tax slab to Rs 12 lakh per annum, effectively exempting individuals earning up to this amount from paying any income tax.

This bold decision reflects the government’s commitment to putting more money into the hands of taxpayers, thereby boosting consumption, investment, and overall economic activity. While previous budget announcements focused on rationalising tax slabs and introducing exemptions in a phased manner, Budget 2025 has taken a more decisive step toward comprehensive tax relief for a large section of the working population.

The middle class, often referred to as the backbone of the Indian economy, stands to benefit immensely from this reform. With higher take-home incomes, salaried professionals, small business owners, and self-employed individuals will experience a tangible increase in their purchasing power.

One of the biggest concerns for middle-class households has always been managing rising costs in essential sectors such as education, healthcare, and housing. With the revised tax exemption, a family with an annual income of Rs 12 lakh can now allocate more resources toward securing a better future for their children, accessing quality healthcare, and making crucial investments in real estate or financial instruments.

Additionally, this move is expected to alleviate financial stress for young professionals, enabling them to save more for retirement, invest in entrepreneurial ventures, or simply enhance their standard........
