Batwara 1947: Taran Adarsh reacts to Sunny Deol film’s poor opening, ‘It deserves to pick up’

New Delhi: Batwara 1947 has had a slow start at the box office despite releasing ahead of Independence Day 2026 and carrying considerable expectations. The Rajkumar Santoshi directorial, starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi and Ali Fazal, opened in theatres on August 14. Trade tracker Sacnilk reported a Day 1 India net collection of Rs 5.75 crore, while the film’s worldwide gross stood at Rs 8.34 crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh believes it is too early to judge the film’s theatrical run. While discussing its opening, he admitted that the numbers had surprised many but remained hopeful about its prospects over the weekend.
