The Diplomat review: A riveting thriller that balances tension, emotion, and diplomacy

New Delhi: The Diplomat is a gripping political thriller that keeps viewers on edge with its sharp storytelling and intense narrative. Inspired by real events from 2017, the film follows the courageous efforts of an Indian diplomat as he navigates a complex international crisis to bring an Indian woman back home from Pakistan.

John Abraham, who also serves as a producer, takes on the role of JP Singh, the Deputy High Commissioner at the Indian Embassy. His mission? To ensure the safe return of Uzma Ahmed (Sadia Khateeb), an Indian woman trapped in a nightmare after being deceived into marriage by a Pakistani man.

From the opening moments, the film sets a tense atmosphere. Uzma is shown living under duress in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, which is held against her will by Tariq (Jagjeet Sandhu). Desperate for an escape, she convinces him to take her to the Indian Embassy under the guise of collecting money from her brother. Once there, she seizes her chance to seek refuge, triggering a high-stakes diplomatic standoff.
