NASA announce change in plans for Moon landing 

NASA have said that they adding an extra mission to their Artemis programme before they attempt to land astronauts on the Moon for the first time in almost half a century.

New Delhi: NASA is adding an extra mission to their Artemis programme before they attempt to land astronauts on the Moon for the first time in almost half a century. The original plan had been to fly around the Moon for the Artemis II mission, which is presently scheduled for April and then attempt a lunar landing with Artemis III in 2028.

Now the Artemis will stay closer to Earth, and a crew will head to low-Earth orbit in 2027 to practice docking with a lunar lander. NASA said that this additional flight would not slow down their return to the Moon; they are still aiming for 2028, for one or even two lunar landings in what will be Artemis IV and V.

NASA administrator Jared Isaacman said during a media briefing that he was adding one more step to the Artemis programme as he didn’t want such long gaps between launches. He noted that conducting an additional mission to low-Earth orbit would let engineers........
