Hyundai is preparing to bring entry-level EV for India; could be called Ioniq P

Hyundai's upcoming made-in-India compact electric SUV, codenamed HE1i, is likely to debut in January 2027 with two battery pack options.

New Delhi: Hyundai is close to widening its electric vehicle portfolio in India with a new compact SUV. It is likely to be called the Ioniq P nameplate. Internally referred to as the HE1i, the upcoming model will be made specifically for the Indian market. It will be positioned as a more affordable alternative to the company’s existing electric offerings.

During Hyundai Motor Company’s third-quarter earnings call on October 29, 2026, the management mentioned plans to bring the Ioniq P to India after the Bayon. However, Hyundai Motor India has not officially confirmed the name, and the company has yet to establish a direct connection between the Ioniq P and the HE1i project.
