Ajith Kumar had been working as a security guard at the Pathirakaliamman Temple for the past three months. On June 27, he was questioned by police following a complaint filed by Nikita and her mother Sivagami, who alleged that jewelry worth 10 pounds had gone missing from their car.

According to reports, Nikita had handed over her car keys to Ajith—a man she barely knew—to park the vehicle while she visited the temple.
