Amit Shah aims to settle Tata boardroom tussle: The all-rounder in Modi’s team
New Delhi: Tata group, one of the most respected conglomerates globally, is generating headlines not for the right reason. More than its falling valuation is the challenge of its inability of drawing what next – a churn made worse with allegations of boardroom battle for control. Tata group has a total headcount of about 1.15 million as of March 2025.
No surprise, therefore, that the government has intervened. With the government led by the Union home minister Amit Shah and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman pushing for stability at Tata House at a meeting earlier this week, the rare intervention is likely to soothe anxious diverse stakeholders.
While that happens, on the other hand, the big development that merits attention is the rise and rise of Shah as the key crisis manager well beyond his core official responsibility. Shah’s ascendancy in the economic and business domain is turning heads while he is clearly at home managing key economic assignments to positive fruition.
The Union government, now in its third term, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has demonstrated increasing trust and faith in Shah’s capabilities well beyond his official remit as home minister.
