New Delhi: They say all good things must come to an end. For the United States of America — the greatest country on the planet built entirely by immigrants — the beginning of end may come if the country’s Supreme Court upholds President Donald Trump’s Executive Order banning birthright citizenship. Had America’s founding fathers thought the way President Trump does, then he wouldn’t be in the White House for a second term. After all, his grandfather was a German immigrant and his grandmother, Scottish. Not surprisingly, therefore, President Trump’s Executive Order was challenged within hours of its issuance by immigration groups, and subsequently a district court in the state of Washington put it on hold temporarily.
One can’t predict how this legal fight will play out in the US Supreme Court eventually, but the uncertainty around birthright is not going to sit well with the highly skilled workers who pour into America every year with the hope of not just building their careers, but also starting their families.
