Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025: Address submissions on two points, including if matter be sent to HC, SC tells parties

New Delhi: The Supreme Court, while hearing a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, expressed its concern over violence over Waqf Act, saying it is disturbing when
court is seized of matters.

A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan at the outset of the hearing asked parties to address their submissions on two points, including if the pleas be sent to high court.

The bench told the parties that there are two questions before it – first whether it should entertain the pleas challenging the Waqf (Amendment) Act or second should the matter be sent to the high court and that the second question will decide the first issue.
