OpenAI has brought ChatGPT directly into Microsoft Word, allowing users to write, edit and format documents without switching between apps. The company announced the integration on September 17, 2026. ChatGPT appears as a sidebar inside Word, where users can ask questions about an open document, rewrite selected text or turn rough notes into a complete draft.

The new integration is available globally across ChatGPT plans, including Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise. It uses the same Microsoft add-in that supports ChatGPT in Excel and PowerPoint.
