Uttarakhand police launches operation 'Lagaam' to curb rising crime involving outsiders, 587 challans issued in one week
Dehradun: A series of violent crimes involving individuals from outside Uttarakhand has triggered widespread protests and demands for stricter background checks.
The recent incidents, including a murder in Pauri Garhwal and multiple assaults in Dehradun, have raised concerns over public safety and law enforcement effectiveness.
Among the most shocking cases was the murder of a 25-year-old local man in Pauri Garhwal, allegedly committed by a poclain machine operator who remains absconding. Meanwhile, in Dehradun, police arrested three men from Haryana and Delhi for attacking a merchant navy officer’s car after a road rage incident on May 30. Adding to the unrest, seven men from Punjab were arrested in Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal, for allegedly assaulting locals with swords after being asked to stop creating disturbances.
