The language translation of Lok Sabha proceedings is done in 10 regional languages, and now six more languages ​​have been added to it, including Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Manipuri, Urdu, and Sanskrit. Previously, translation services were available in 10 languages, which include Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu, along with Hindi and English.

When Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla made the announcement, DMK members started sloganeering over it, after which the Speaker asked DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran what his problem was. On this, Maran said that he welcomes the simultaneous translation of official state languages, but he objects to the translation of the Sanskrit language because it is not communicable. Citing the 2011 population survey, he claimed that 73,000 people speak Sanskrit. He said, ‘Why should taxpayers’ money be wasted because of the ideology of RSS.’

This showdown over Sanskrit was not just restricted to Parliament, as many people took to X to express their views on Maran’s statement.
