Explained: Diplomatic importance of NSA Ajit Doval's proposed Dec 17-18 China visit
In a major strategic diplomatic move, India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is expected to visit China on December 17-18 where the former spy is expected to hold talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to resolve issues related to the border dispute.
Doval’s visit comes at a time after an important agreement was reached between India and China in October regarding patrolling on the LAC.
This is the first time since 2019 that any senior official or leader of India will visit China. Earlier, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar last visited China in August 2019. According to this agreement, everything will be the same on the LAC again after the violent clash between the soldiers of India and China in the Galwan Valley which had led to escalation of tensions between the two neighbours.
It may be recalled that after this violent clash, conflict was seen between India and China at 5 places on the LAC namely Depsang, Demchok, Galwan Valley, Pangong Tso and Gogra Hot Spring. At the same time, after several rounds of talks, the armies of both countries had retreated from Galwan Valley, Pangong Tso and Gogra Hot Spring. But now after the agreement, the armies of India and China have withdrawn from all five places.
