The two-day all-charged-up debate on the Constitution concluded on Saturday while highlighting the clash of ideas between the government and the Opposition also witnessed a sharp argument between the two. Both the treasury benches and the Opposition leaders tried to define the Constitution according to their respective political agendas.

As expected Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 75th Constitution Day raised questions on the constitutional amendments during the previous Congress government and ensured that he took on the Gandhi family without actually naming the members for all the past mistakes it made in its 50 year old rule. The PM, in his speech alleged that the spirit of the country’s constitution was tampered with for political interest. He also raised questions on the constitutional amendments during the Congress governments led by the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to Indira Gandhi and Manmohan Singh.

While attacking the Gandhi family the PM said, one family of Congress ruled for 55 years and it challenged the Constitution at every level. He also called Congress a party that hunts the Constitution while adding that Congress was so greedy for making amendments to the Constitution that it kept hunting the Constitution from time to time. It kept bleeding the soul of the Constitution which was changed 75 times in about 6 decades.

The PM also spoke on Nehru-Indira and said that Nehru ji had written a letter to the Chief Ministers saying that if the Constitution comes in the way of us, then the Constitution should be changed at all........
