US expands H-1B, L-1 fees: What Indian professionals and employers need to know

US has expanded existing H-1B and L-1 fees to cover certain extension petitions. The move could increase immigration costs for companies employing large numbers of Indian professionals.

New Delhi: Indian professionals working in the US on H-1B and L-1 visas could see higher immigration-related costs after the Department of Homeland Security expanded an existing fee requirement to certain visa extension petitions.

The fee has not been increased instead the new rule expands when the existing charge must be paid. It will apply from September 9, 2026, according to the final rule published by DHS.
