UN warns Iran conflict could push 45 million more into global hunger crisis
UN warns ongoing Middle East conflict could worsen global hunger, with Gaza and Sudan facing severe shortages, rising costs and limited aid access.
New Delhi: The United Nations has warned that tens of millions of people will face acute hunger if the Middle East war continues through to June. The deputy executive director of the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP), Carl Skau, on Tuesday revealed the risks.
He said, “If the Middle East conflict continues through June, an additional 45 million people could be pushed into acute hunger by price rises.” Skau added that this will take the global hunger levels to an all-time record with already 319 million people acutely food insecure.
