New Delhi: England saved their best for last in Southampton, pulling off the biggest victory in the history of men’s one-day internationals. The hosts defeated South Africa by a staggering 342 runs in the third ODI at the Rose Bowl, setting a new record for the largest win by runs in the format and denying the Proteas a clean sweep of the series.
Batting first after losing the toss, England piled up 414 for 5 from their 50 overs. After an early catch drop Joe Root utilised the opportunity completely as he struck a fluent century, finishing on 100 from 96 balls while 21-year-old Jacob Bethell lit up the ground with his maiden professional hundred, a sparkling 110 from 82 deliveries.
