Who is V Kamakoti: IIT Madras director favouring ‘Gaumutra’ for medicinal value
New Delhi: Professor V Kamakoti, Director, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, is facing criticism and backlash after he remarked on the medicinal benefits of ‘Gomutra’(cow urine). A video can be seen doing rounds on social media, where Kamakoti is seen addressing an event at a Go Samrakshana Sala on Maatu Pongal, January 15, 2025. In the event, he highlighted the anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and digestive properties of cow urine and also claimed that drinking cow urine can treat digestive disorders like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
While speaking Kamakoti stated that an ascetic cured a fever by drinking cow urine, claiming that the fever subsided within 15 minutes of drinking the cow urine. The comments have triggered backlashes in social media and as well as from politicians accusing Kamakoti of promoting unscientific beliefs and undermining the credibility of IIT Madras.
Veezhinathan Kamakoti is the director at IIT Madras. Before being appointed as the director of IIT Madras in the year 2022, Kamakoti was a professor from the computer science and engineering department.
