No 'Faith' in chaos: Tirupati stampede shows lack of self discipline can be fatal
New Delhi: India being a land of diverse culture and religion, is home to the world’s most renowned temples. Every day crores of devotees visit these sacred places for blessings and spiritual solace. However, the recurrent stampedes that occur during these temples’ major religious events have now become a trend of indiscipline and overcrowding leading to fatalities.
The recent stampede at a token distribution centre in Tirupati resulted in the death of six people, marking a record incident in the history of Tirumala Tirupati Darshan. The preliminary investigations have revealed a lack of management like missing barricades, lapses in crowd management by the TTD officials and police and whatnot. While the blame often falls on the administration, the issue also lines on people’s mindset, indiscipline actions and lack of presence of mind.
The significant contributing cause is the indiscipline among devotees. Bypassing queues, pushing ahead or ignoring instructions to reach faster is a common thing among Indians, whether it is a child, a teen, a middle-aged man or an elderly person.
