New Delhi: French President Emmanuel Macron has vowed to hold accountable those involved in rioting and looting during nationwide protests that turned violent across France. The demonstrations, driven by anger over rising living costs and poor conditions in schools, saw shops looted, public buildings attacked and clashes with police in several cities.

In a televised address on Sunday, October 18, Macron said those responsible for looting would have to pay for the damage. “Those who looted will have to pay back for the damage, and those who sought to bring down the Republic will be held accountable,” he said.
