New Delhi: Since the 1990s, scientists have recorded a number of flares from the supermassive black hole occupying the core of the Milky Way in multiple frequencies. While astronomers had detected flares in the near-infrared and radio frequencies from the black hole, designated as Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), there was a gap in detections in the mid-infrared frequencies. Now, scientists have detected a mid-infrared flare from Sgr A* for the first time, filling in a gap in observations. Astronomers also spotted a slower moving radio counterpart of the same flare. Scientists do not know what causes the flares, and rely on theoretical models and sophisticated computer simulations to probe the underlying........
