Earth got temporary radiation belts after May 2024 Solar Storm
New Delhi: Temporary radiation belts are often formed after major Solar Storms, in addition to the permanent Van Allen belts that trap energetic particles and prevent them from reaching the Earth. These temporary radiation belts typically last for about four weeks, and trap primarily electrons. Following the May 2024 Solar Storm, a microsatellite detected two new radiation belts. One was full of electrons, but the other was unexpected as it had trapped protons as well. Subsequent large geomagnetic storms in © News9Live
