New Delhi: The Blue Ghost probe by Firefly Aerospace has successfully landed on the Moon, close to a volcanic dome on the near side, within Mare Crisium or the Sea of Crises. The initial descent orbit was initiated autonomously during a planned communications blackout, about an hour before the landing descent. The powered descent began about 11 minutes before touchdown. The probe shed its altitude and reduced its speed with a braking burn. Firefly Aerospace announced a successful touchdown of the Blue Ghost lander at 14:05 hours IST. Three of the four contacts on the lander legs tripped on contact.
