National Sports Awards: Tejaswin Shankar among 17 named for Arjuna Awards, no Khel Ratna

The Sports Ministry on Tuesday announced the National Sports Awards 2025, nominating 17 athletes for the Arjuna Award. No athlete was recommended for the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports on Tuesday announced the nominees for the National Sports Awards 2025. Decathlete and long jumper Tejaswin Shankar headlined the list of 17 athletes who have been selected for the prestigious Arjuna Awards. However, no athlete has been shortlisted for the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, which is India’s highest sporting honour.

Tejaswin Shankar recently scripted history at the Commonwealth Games 2026, where he won a bronze medal in men’s decathlon, becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the event in the competition’s history. He has been nominated for the Arjuna Award alongside some other prominent names.
