Leeds Test, Day 2: Bumrah strikes gold with Root's wicket after ton-up Pope leads England's charge
New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah was unlucky to finish with just three wickets to his name as the Indian pacer delivered a sensational spell, single-handedly rattling England in their first innings on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test between the two sides at Headingley in Leeds. Ollie Pope led England’s spirited fightback with his splendid ton, but it was Bumrah who stole the show with the ball.
Bumrah struck late to dismiss a well-settled Joe Root cheaply on 28, and nearly got Harry Brook to ruin England’s terrific batting show towards the end of the action on Day 2. However, Brook survived courtesy of a no-ball from the Indian pacer as he got a reprieve at the stroke of stumps. Nonetheless, Bumrah’s three-wicket haul put England under pressure as they finished with 209/3 on Day 2, trailing India by 262 runs.
Bumrah got Root to nick a back-of-length delivery bowled outside off for Karun Nair to complete a comfortable catch at second slip in the 47th over of England’s innings to take his third wicket of the day.
