Opinion | Donald Trump: The Most Pro-Israel President In US History
When I arrived in Israel on October 9 after the events of October 7, one thing was immediately clear—Israel was preparing for a major military operation to eliminate Hamas. But there was still some uncertainty over one question: if other countries were to take a stand against Israel over its offensive on Hamas, how far would the United States go?
There was, of course, no doubt about American support for Israel, and just a few days after the attacks, then-US President Joe Biden visited Israel, expressing full solidarity. During my coverage, whenever discussions turned to America’s stance, my driver Mose would often share interesting insights during our conversations.
He once said something that struck me—“Trump was unmatched. He officially recognised Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and even moved the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem." Mose would add: “If Trump were in power, things would have been very different."
When Trump spoke at the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, after the release of hostages, his words reflected Israel’s own spirit and resolve. Two years later, through the Gaza Peace Plan, which secured the release of hostages and ended the Israel-Hamas war, Trump once again proved why many consider him the most pro-Israel American president ever.
But why exactly is he called so?
There are several solid reasons: political, diplomatic, and symbolic that distinguish Trump from all other presidents.
The most significant among them was his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. In 2017, the Trump administration officially recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a step no American president had dared to take for decades, fearing tensions with Arab nations.
