Opinion | FOMO To Reel Filters To Faith: Why Maha Kumbh Is Drawing Gen Z
Besides the holy trinity of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati, a fourth, gushing river has started flowing from the Maha Kumbh 2025. It is the unstoppable stream of Instagram reels.
Its resident deity is Generation Z, or twenty-somethings. And it is not just FOMO (or the fear of missing out) driving this, although that is one of the more obvious reasons.
More than 500 million people are expected to visit the Maha Kumbh. How many of them are Gen Z, particularly in the urban sense of the word, is not available as statistics.
However, the sheer number of selfies and shorts on social media suggests there is a steep spike in interest among very young adults.
The Gen Z were in a big number along with the millennials going to Kumbh and I was delighted .
