Maybe Mayor Zohran Mamdani was trying to squeeze in more of his “warmth of collectivism” when he added Bryant Park, at the last minute, as a watch-party site for the NBA Finals, but what he got instead was mayhem: huge brawls, youths jumping on cars, tearing down street signs, setting fires, attacking cops.
And it was the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group — you know, the one Hizzoner wants to disband — that rushed in, as usual, to save the day.
“This city has come together to cheer on the Knicks and share in a moment that belongs to all of us,” Mamdani gushed Monday (the morning of the game!) as he announced that Bryant Park would complement Central Park and the Brooklyn Bowl as a watch-party site.
Whose idea was it to add a much smaller venue? It was limited to 5,000 celebrants;........
