Miranda Devine: The Dems’ reveal their stance on illegal immigration — and true colors — during Trump’s State of the Union
The Democrats showed their true colors at Tuesday evening’s State of the Union when they failed the president’s test of allegiance to this country.
They are so devoted to illegal migration that they walked straight into his trap.
President Trump asked every lawmaker in the chamber to stand if they believe their primary duty is to protect American citizens rather than illegal migrants.
That should have be a no-brainer.
It is the essence of putting America first.
But the Democrats refused to stand.

“One of the great things about the State of the Union is how it gives Americans the chance to see clearly what their representatives really believe,” Trump said.
“So tonight, I’m inviting every legislator to join with my administration in reaffirming a fundamental principle: if you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support: The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.”
The Republicans all leapt to their feet, but those on the Democrat side of the chamber were glued to their chairs, caught in a moral cul-de-sac their Trump derangement won’t allow them to escape.
“Isn’t that a shame?” said Trump, surveying the seated Dems and milking their humiliation for maximum effect.
“It really is a shame.”
Far-left “Squad” members Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib (who was proudly wearing a “F–K ICE” badge) transferred their shame into incoherent heckling of the president.
No surprise that Democrats are refusing to pass the SAVE (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility) Act that requires proof of citizenship to register to vote and an ID to cast a ballot.
Since it’s a measure with 83% approval in opinion polls, Trump pointed out the only plausible reason Democrats would oppose such popular, common-sense legislation is because their policies are “so bad that the only way they can get elected is to cheat.”

We are left to assume that Democrats’ reject election integrity because they need illegal migration to replenish the store of beholden voters who will overlook their destructive policies in exchange for unlimited handouts and a blind eye to welfare fraud.
Trump’s success at closing the border has been a political liability in some ways, now that illegal migration has dropped off the radar and the Democrat narrative has drawn public sympathy.
But closing the floodgates is only the first step in rescuing the country from the disaster inflicted by Joe Biden and his sinister Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas when they ushered in as many as 20 million illegal aliens, including unknown numbers of psychopaths, rapists, pedophiles, terrorists, gangbangers, fraudsters, drunken drivers and assorted other criminals.
Deporting them is the necessary hard part.
The media regurgitates Democrat lies and cherry-picks flawed research to pretend illegal migrants are more law-abiding than native-born Americans, and justify the violent resistance to ICE enforcement operations that Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger lauded as the highest form of patriotism in her SOTU reply on behalf of her party Tuesday night.
Nothing could get in the way of Spanberger’s fantasies about ICE storm troopers who have “ripped nursing mothers away from their babies . . . sent children, a little boy in a blue bunny hat . . . people who aspire to be Americans” to the gulag.
Yes, Democrats are full of empathy for mythical victims they conjure up in their imaginations.
But when it comes to actual Americans who have been preyed upon by people who never should have entered this country, they are like the three wise monkeys: see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.
Only a heart of stone could fail to be moved by the “Angel Families” Trump invited to a vigil at the White House Monday, on the eve of his SOTU address.
Grieving family members spoke of their loved ones who had been murdered, raped and injured by illegal aliens, and the victims’ names were read aloud as a military choir sang “Amazing Grace.”
The president signed a proclamation declaring Feb. 22 “Angel Family Day,” the second anniversary of the murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley, a nursing student at Augusta University in Georgia murdered by an illegal alien.
Her murder was the inspiration for the Laken Riley Act, the first bill Trump signed into law last year, which mandates the detention and deportation of illegal-alien criminals including those “charged with, arrested for, [and] convicted of” nonviolent crimes such as theft, larceny and shoplifting.
“My daughter Laken didn’t die in vain,” Riley’s mother, Allyson Phillips, told the president.
“Because of the Laken Riley Act and the work you’re doing to clear out these monsters, other mothers won’t have to live my nightmare.”
Trump promised the Angel Families that he would “recommit to carrying out the largest mass-deportation effort in our nation’s history.”
The cost in human suffering if he does not deport Biden’s illegals is astronomical and all but ignored by the media.
Economist Peter Navarro, the White House trade czar and a Harvard Ph.D., told “Pod Force One” this week he has calculated the cost as “a 50,000-body count; essentially, 50,000 Americans victimized.”
He cites between 440 and 780 additional Americans who will be murdered, about 2,260 more Americans sexually assaulted, 3,640 American homes burglarized, 15,560 Americans violently assaulted and 27,200 felony drug arrests involving dealers, traffickers, smugglers and hardcore possession cases.
The Washington Post persisted this week in trying to repudiate Trump’s “Angel Family” efforts by claiming he is inventing a bogeyman, that illegals commit crime at a lower rate.
Yet the Center for Immigration Studies has forensically debunked the studies on which the paper relies, finding they either conflate legal and illegal migrants, rely on pre-2018 data, or use statistics from Texas — the one state that differentiates between illegal and legal migrants — that are incomplete.
Not to mention that the Biden-era border invasion was worse than any previous wave of illegal migration because countries around the world “deliberately opened their prisons and released violent criminals during the latest border breakdown — both to reduce crime at home and export crime to America,” Navarro says.
Already we can detect the effect of Trump’s border crackdown and deportation efforts in the falling numbers of murders and fentanyl overdoses.
While Democrat-aligned media profess themselves mystified, it stands to reason that when you deport tens of thousands of criminals, you see less crime.
Among those reportedly arrested by ICE just in the past week were the following foreign charmers: Gerardo Moran-Cisneros, convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old; Victor Ortiz-Ramos, convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a victim less than 13 years old; Martin Villanueva-Arenas, convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault of a child; Jeremias Hernandez-Fernandez, convicted of indecency with a child; Pedro Pichasaca-Dutan, convicted of rape; Javid Finton McLawrence, convicted of indecent assault; Juan Vasquez-Perez, convicted of third-degree sexual abuse.
These are the monsters who Democrats and their useful idiots believe are more important than the Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, Rachel Morin, and all the thousands of Americans who have and will continue to be victims of this insanity.
Trump was right to remind America whose side the Democrats are on.
