Medals in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk were played between athletes of two countries in nine sports

The first Russian-Chinese Winter Youth games were held in 2016 in the Chinese city of Harbin. Before that, such competitions were only held for summer sports. In 2016 athletes competed in 4 sports: speed skating (i.e. short track), figure skating, hockey, ski. This year, athletes came to compete in 9 sports: ski jumping, Nordic combined, snowboard, freestyle, alpine skiing, curling, speed skating (short track), figure skating, ski races.

In the absence of Russians at international competitions, the level of preparation for domestic competitions is increasing. For example, in Russia has recently started to hold an official tournament of jumping in figure skating (this year it will be held on January 18-19 in Saint Petersburg) — there are no analogues of such competition at the international level. The increase in the number of all-Russian starts has led to an increase in the level of athletes — the best of the best, winners of all-Russian competitions and current champions came to the competition in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
