The United States House of Representatives has voted in favour of a measure aimed at curbing President Donald Trump’s authority over military operations against Iran, marking a rare but largely symbolic challenge to the White House as the conflict stretches into its fourth month.

The resolution, passed on Wednesday with 215 votes in favour and 208 against, seeks to invoke the War Powers Act of 1973, which requires congressional approval for prolonged military engagements abroad. Four Republicans broke ranks to join Democrats in supporting the measure, reflecting growing unease within parts of the president’s own party over the economic and political costs of the war.
