Rana Sanaullah Rejects Delay Claims, Confirms Imran Khan’s Health Monitored In Jail
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, on Friday addressed concerns over the health of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, stressing that any deliberate withholding of medical treatment would constitute criminal negligence.
Speaking on the Senate floor, Sanaullah said the opposition was attempting to politicise Khan’s eye problem, but clarified that facts regarding his health had already been presented before the Supreme Court. He rejected claims that the PTI founder’s medical complaints had been ignored for four months.
Sanaullah provided a detailed timeline of Khan’s treatment, stating that the PTI founder first raised an eye-related complaint in the first week of January. Following this, the jail doctor administered eye drops for three to four days. He was examined on January 16, underwent tests on January 19, and received an injection on January 24. The senator added that these details are documented officially and offered to share the records with the opposition.
He further stated that Khan had been regularly examined by jail doctors every second day, and external doctors had also seen him on 25 occasions. Sanaullah highlighted that during a December 2 meeting with his sister and a December 9 medical board review, Khan did not report any eye issues.
Sanaullah emphasised that whenever Khan raised any medical concern, treatment was provided promptly. He dismissed the narrative of a prolonged delay as politically motivated and noted that no formal request had been filed with the Supreme Court for admission to a private hospital. The government, he said, had assured that Khan could be examined by any doctor of his choice.
The senator concluded that the living arrangements and medical care for Khan were transparent and properly documented, urging that the issue should not be exploited for political gain.
