Pakistan has publicly pushed back against growing British pressure over convicted Rochdale grooming gang leader Shabir Ahmed, declaring that the case is entirely Britain's responsibility and insisting Islamabad has "no connection whatsoever" with the 73-year-old child rapist.

In its first official comments on the controversy, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan unequivocally condemns child sexual abuse and believes offenders should be prosecuted and punished regardless of race, religion or ethnicity.

However, he rejected suggestions that Pakistan bears any responsibility for Ahmed, arguing that the convict spent his entire adult life in Britain, committed his crimes there and was convicted by a British court.
