New Poll Shows a Plurality of Missouri Voters Support Pro-Life Amendment 3

This week, St. Louis University and YouGov released the results of a poll of likely Missouri voters. The results contain some good news for pro-lifers. The results indicate that 47 percent of Show-Me State voters – and 70 percent of self-identified Republicans — support Amendment 3, a ballot question that would repeal Missouri’s constitutional right to an abortion and ban transgender treatments for minors. The poll of 900 likely Missouri voters was conducted last month.

The results contain some other good news for Missouri pro-lifers. A majority opposed legal abortion for any reason. Additionally, a majority also opposed legalizing abortion through 15 weeks’ gestation. Furthermore, a plurality of likely Missouri voters opposed allowing minor girls to obtain abortions without parental consent.

The St. Louis University/YouGov poll also showed very strong public opposition to transgender treatments for minors. The results indicate that 67 percent of likely voters oppose hormone therapy and puberty blockers for minors. And a whopping 73 percent oppose gender transition surgery for minors. These results were consistent with a St. Louis University/YouGov poll that was conducted in August 2023.

Of course, one should not read too much into the results of any one survey. The November election is more than seven months away, and the campaign for Amendment 3 has not started in earnest yet. Furthermore, a body of data shows that ballot propositions tend to lose public support as the election draws near. That said, Missouri pro-lifers should take heart. The results of this poll show that a substantial pro-life result is achievable on Election Day.
