Ignore Trump. Millions of Americans are still concerned about climate change
I am enormously grateful for the Montreal Climate Summit’s willingness to give me a seat at the table and for allowing me to join so many incredibly smart and strategic thinkers who care about the world we live in and the people we hold dear.
My message to Montrealers and all Canadians is that our current US president does not — in any way, shape, or form — speak for all Americans. He does not represent the values that I and millions upon millions of Americans hold dear.
Our federal government is causing chaos, leading to rising costs for families, businesses and employees who can’t make ends meet, as well as a war that makes no sense. They are throwing away decades of US leadership and global collaboration, which is not only destabilizing but also shortsighted and foolish. They are forfeiting our ability to influence clean energy investments, policies and decisions that would have advanced our economy and protected us from costly disasters.
The common thread that underpins the dangers we face at home and abroad is that we are leaving ourselves exposed to the volatility emanating from our reliance on dirty fossil fuels to power global energy systems.
