Nothing gets excitement levels going in my house quite like the words 'chippy tea'.

They're not uttered as much these days. With the price of takeaways increasing as much as everything else, it's become a rarer treat.

So it made it all the more special to be heading not to any old chippy, but an award-winning chippy on a rather drizzly Wednesday evening.

Leigh's Pennington Plaice is one of just four in Greater Manchester to make it onto this year's Fry Magazine’s 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways list.

It's not the first time it's made the prestigious list - celebrating the very best chippies in the country and based entirely on mystery diner reports - and a 2023 winner sign is still on display in the window.
