Keep New York’s education tax dollars in New YorkCayne Letizia
As a New York taxpayer, you may or may not support abolishing the U.S. Department of Education. But we can all agree on this: if the DOE is dismantled, every penny that New Yorkers currently send to the federal government for education must continue to support New York’s children.
As a father, a Board of Education trustee in White Plains, and a lifelong New Yorker, I strongly urge our congressional delegation, local taxpayers and parents to join me in this commonsense position. If the Department of Education does indeed go away, the billions of dollars New York currently receives in federal education funding must not be lost.
The programs that are funded by the DOE totaled $5.2 billion in 2023 and are slated to reach $5.8 billion in 2025. These funds are used to educate children with disabilities and to ensure compliance with the federal statute.
