As a region, Merseyside has been forced to confront a huge amount of tragedy in recent years. As a news reporter you can become hardened to the difficult incidents you must report on, but when innocent children are killed - well that is something you can never become inured to.

This week our newsroom struggled once again to process the horrific details that came out of court as twisted Axel Rudakubana was sentenced to at least 52-years in prison for murdering three beautiful little girls as they attended a Taylor Swift dance party in Southport last year.

There was a sombre atmosphere in our office as we documented the proceedings. It was a similar feeling to the one we experienced back in April 2023 as we covered the court case of Thomas Cashman........
