Our daughter got married earlier this month. The wedding was at a venue in Portugal in a rural location by the sea. Over 120 guests attended the joyful, beautiful nuptials. Tears were shed and reflections shared. Here are mine.

She was born when I was 43 years old, an older mum. Without any medical interventions I’d got pregnant twice and had two miscarriages. One more go, we decided, and got third time lucky.

When making my wedding speech I had guests singing “Catch a Falling Star”, first sung by Perry Como in 1957, when I was eight years old. That is what her arrival felt like. I used to tell her she had tumbled down from the skies and brought starlight into our home.
