How Labour women are torpedoing Starmer's boy's club

Sir Keir Starmer has been regularly accused of having a “tin ear” for women’s voices in The Labour Party. But a meeting of his Cabinet on Tuesday showed the No 10 boys’ club has been smashed to smithereens.

The resignation of No 10 chief of staff Morgan McSweeney and director of communications Tim Allan this week left only female aides in the room when Starmer chaired his political cabinet on Tuesday morning. It discusses Labour Party business following the official Cabinet which debates the work of Government.

Michelle Napchan, Labour’s election co-ordinator and pollster, gave a presentation setting out the party’s strategy for May’s elections for councils in England alongside Holyrood and Cardiff. Also attending were Vidhya Alakeson and Jill ­Cuthbertson – promoted this week to joint chiefs of staff – alongside Sophie Nazemi who is acting in Allan’s former role and Amy Richards, No 10’s political director.
