Nestlé Issues Baby Milk Recall Over Food Toxin Concerns
Nestlé has issued a voluntary recall for batches of its SMA infant formula and follow-on formula milk.
This is due tothe potential presence of cereulide, a toxin which can cause nasty symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
In a statement, the brand said the recall was a “precautionary measure” as the “safety and wellbeing of babies is our absolute priority”.
People who have bought the affected products have been warned not to feed them to their babies.
To request a refund, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said you can share a photo of the product and the batch code via the brand’s website or call 0800 081 8180.
Batch codes can be found on the base of the tin or box for powdered formulas or the base of the outer box and on the side / top of the container for ready-to-feed formulas.
If you have been prescribed one of the batches listed, Nestlé advised to destroy the product and speak to your healthcare professional for advice on an alternative.
