Mike Pence Says This Trump Policy Could Kill The American Dream
Former Vice President Mike Pence sits for an interview with CNN on May 5, 2025.
Former Vice President Mike Pence on Monday said keeping toys affordable “really is part of the American dream” as President Donald Trump says US families will simply need to learn to live with less as a result of his trade policy.
Trump recently doubled down on his conviction that children should be equally satisfied with fewer, more expensive toys if his tactics result in store shelves going empty.
“A young lady, a 10-year-old girl, 9-year-old girl, 15-year-old girl, doesn’t need 37 dolls. She can be very happy with two or three or four or five,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday evening. “Let’s not waste a lot of time on this stupid question.”
But Pence said pursuing policies that could raise prices will not bode well with American families.
“Keeping dolls affordable, keeping our kids’ toys affordable, that really is part of the American dream,” Pence told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.
