A Jewish former schoolmate of Nigel Farage has accused the Reform UK leader of telling him “Hitler was right” when they were boys.

Peter Ettedgui claimed Farage also said “gas ’em” followed by a hissing sound in reference to the Holocaust.

Speaking to the BBC’s Newsnight programme, Ettedgui said he was “really angry” at Farage’s denials of his accusations, which were initially made in The Guardian.

He said: “The most vivid memories of my school life is Farage repeatedly coming up to me and, knowing that I was Jewish, saying ‘Hitler was right’ and ‘gas ‘em’ and that was frequently followed by imitating the sound of escaping gas.

“As the grandchild of a couple who had escaped from Hitler and Nazi Germany, but whose families left behind perished in the Holocaust, this was extremely wounding and upsetting.”

Shown a video of Farage saying his accusers were “not telling the truth”, Ettedgui said it made him feel “really angry”.
