Confirmed: Parliament Will Not Be Recalled To Let Donald Trump Address MPs And Peers

Parliament will not be recalled to let Donald Trump address MPs and peers during his state visit in the autumn, it has been confirmed.

The US president will come to the UK from September 17 to 19 with his wife, First Lady Melania Trump.

It will be the first time that any US president has been given two state visits.

However, just like during the last one in 2019, Trump will not be able to address both houses of Parliament because the Commons will be in recess so that MPs can attend their party conferences.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage told GB News that parliament should be recalled to allow Trump to give an address.

Under Westminster rules, the government must make a request to the Commons Speaker for parliament to be recalled.
