Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth is getting the lettuce treatment.

In a proud moment for British culture, US defence secretary Pete Hegseth’s tenure is now being compared to a lettuce’s shelf-life amid reports he is about to lose his job.

According to NPR, Donald Trump is looking to replace Hegseth after he shared classified information about the US’s airstrikes on Yemen with his wife, brother and lawyer on Signal.

Hegseth was already under pressure over his involvement in a separate Signal group which accidentally included the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic.

When asked if he still had confidence in his defence secretary, Trump said: “Why would you even ask a question like that?”

And when he was asked about the second Signal chat, Hegseth dismissed it as “a bunch of hit pieces”.
